About Mackerel
Mackerel follows the relationships between domain names, nameservers, aliases and zone information. We help maintainers read target names and establish a review sequence when changing DNS providers. This tool is not a full dig +trace and does not invent unqueried steps in a lookup path.
Follow the name
Public answers help you inspect the route, but they are not a complete recursive trace.
- NS — Identify the nameservers
- CNAME — Follow an alias
- SOA — Review zone metadata
Where the answers come from
The Mackerel server sends queries to Google Public DNS. The interface presents each answer’s name, type, data and TTL. Downloaded files contain the results already displayed on the page and do not trigger another lookup.
What this service does not do
We do not manage your domain, request your DNS account password or modify any records. We do not promise worldwide propagation coverage, automatic repairs or availability of the services behind a domain.
